Post-war architecture
My current research focus is around post-war architecture with a particular interest in Brutalism and concrete.
I am currently embarking on making a large body of new works including sculptural and photographic works, temporary non-permanent interventions and seeking out larger spaces for installations for my project, My Life in Concrete, adding a deeply personal element to my ongoing post-war architecture research. I am making work around my own experience of pertinent post-war physical spaces I’ve encountered, (from the huge social housing estate in a New Town that I grew up in, through the post-industrial landscapes of my university cities and right up to my most recent trips actively seeking out and happening upon post-war architectural experiences) investigating the complexity of how they might have affected my life, in practical terms but also emotionally, working with themes including subjective and unreliable memory, hope, change, ageing and loss.
More on these research interests and projects coming soon.
